Scholarships, Inc. is a totally non-profit, all-volunteer organization, established in 1959 in order to pool community resources to assist Hayward’s public and private high school graduates in obtaining scholarships.

In 1959, the Hayward Rotary Club, in conjunction with Hayward High School Principal Don Oakes and English teacher Esther McStay, devised a plan to assist young people in gaining their higher education goals.

Community response was outstanding and the first scholarships were granted in May of 1960.
