HOW IT WORKS

Who Receives Our Help?

The costs of attending a college, university, or technical/vocational school have escalated dramatically in past years. Scholarships, Inc. has granted hundreds of scholarships to students ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 dependent on student need. Our objective is to give students enough help to complete the first year in college. The total amount distributed from 1960 through the present is nearly $750,000!

How Are We Certain Donations Help Deserving Students?

Each Hayward high school has a process for identifying eligible students. Students are recommended based upon academic achievement, educational goals, financial need and community and/or school service. Teacher and counselor recommendations are important in the selection process. Many of our recipients are first in their family to attend college or pursue technical careers.

How Awards Are Determined and Applied

The Scholarships, Inc. screening committee interviews candidates to review students’ academic eligibility and service to the school/community, determine financial need and make a personal connection. Once this process is completed, the committee makes a final recommendation to the Scholarships, Inc. Board. Nominees are notified in the spring, presented an award certificate, and provided the amount of the monetary award.

No money goes directly to the student. Instead, upon verification of enrollment, monetary awards are presented directly to the students’ academic institution or technical school. School officials apply the funds to the student’s account.

How Can I Contribute?

Contributing to Scholarships, Inc. is an admirable way to honor individual achievements and service to the community.

Donations can be made in the name of a deceased friend or family member.

Scholarships, Inc. can also be named as a beneficiary in a will, thus providing a living memorial.

Numerous small contributions are combined to make awards large enough to substantially assist students with their college dreams.

We are grateful to the many organizations, groups, and individuals who, through the years, have sustained Scholarships, Inc. with sizable donations.
